Robert Carlyle Ellison, 72, of the Beckley Road, Spanishburg, died Saturday evening, June 9, 2012 at the Bowers Hospice House in Beckley. Born May 30, 1940, at Dunns, he was the son of the late Arthur Carlyle Ellison and Eva Alice Moye Ellison. Robert was a graduate of Spanishburg High School. He was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict serving with the U.S. Air Force serving as a jet engine mechanic. For more than 30 years of his life, he had worked for Hydraulics Inc. and for Downard Hydraulics both located in Princeton. Robert was a very simple person, he had a God given talent for playing the piano, and he had played in several churches in the area. He loved watching baseball. He was a member of the Dunns Missionary Baptist Church at Dunns. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Josephine Gearhart. Survivors include two children,Laurie A. Blees & husband Shawn of Charleston, Russell S. Ellison of Spanishburg; Two grandchildren, Allison Darwish & Ryan Blees; Four great grandchildren, Hailey, Jordyn, Brandon & Omar; Three siblings, Athlene Hatcher
John & Trudy Ellison, Roy & Nancy Ellison; Brother in law, Charles "Bud" Gearhart. A graveside service will be held 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at the Ellison Family Cemetery near Dunns with Pastor Ralph Calfee officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Seymour Johnson Air Force Base Honor Guard. Those wishing to attend are requested to meet at the cemetery on Thursday.
