Gladys Maria Sinicrope, 91, of Sparrow Street (Quail Valley Estates) Princeton, formerly of McDowell County and Severna Park, Maryland died Saturday evening, February 18, 2012 at Glenwood Retirement Village near Princeton. Born May 3, 1920 at Kimball, she was the daughter of the late Pasquale Sinicrope and Theodora Cimino Sinicrope. She was a graduate of Welch High School, received her bachelor's degree from Concord College in education. She earned her master's degree from George Washington University with a concentration in English and Biology. In her quest to further her education, she completed graduate studies at Duke University in Durham NC and Towson University in Towson Maryland. Ms. Sinicrope was retired from the Anne Arundel Maryland Public County Schools where she taught high school English with a focus on British literature. Prior to her move to Maryland, she taught in McDowell County for five years. She began her career as an executive secretary to Superintendent Hilton of Superior Coal Company. Ms. Sinicrope was a member of many professional and service organizations pertaining to education. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Harrison Street in Princeton and a member of the Altar Society. She was a member of the O.S.I.A. Fratelli Tricolore # 2631 of Mercer County. Ms. Sinicrope enjoyed traveling around the world. She enjoyed experiencing the theater, art, music, museums, architecture, and geography of both the western and eastern worlds. She often returned to Italy, the country of her ancestors. Ms. Sinicrope was an avid reader, pianist of classical music and enjoyed opera, theater, musical and performances. She supported many charities of the poor including Tender Mercies of Princeton. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by four brothers; Frank Joseph Sinicrope, Arthur Sinicrope, Felix O. Sinicrope & Joseph Sinicrope along with three sisters; Santa Serreno, Angelina Sinicrope and Rose Marguerite Sinicrope. Gladys was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Survivors include many nephews, nieces and cousins. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 AM Thursday, February 23, 2012 from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Harrison Street in Princeton with Father Paul Wharton as the celebrant. Entombment will follow in the Woodlawn Memorial Park Mausoleum in Bluewell. A time of gathering and sharing with the family will be held Wednesday from 6 until 8 PM at the funeral home with a Christian Wake Service at 7:45 PM.
