Lisa Ann Bergeria Blankenship, 57, of North State Street, Athens, died suddenly Sunday, February 12, 2012 at Princeton Community Hospital. Born January 12, 1955 at Quantico Virginia, she was the daughter of Louise Rose Guerci Bergeria of Quantico, Virginia and the late William Nicholas Bergeria. Lisa was a graduate of Garfield High School in Woodbridge Virginia. She then enrolled at Concord College in Athens where she received her Bachelor's degree in Education; this was followed by attending East Tennessee State University in Johnson City TN where she earned a Master's degree in Library Science. Lisa started at Concord College in 1977 as an assistant cheerleading coach and later became the head coach, a position she still held at the time of her death. She was also employed by the Mercer County Schools as a media specialist at Pike View High School. Lisa was devoted to her family, her many cheerleaders that she coached and the students that she shared her life with during their education. She was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Princeton and Concord College Chapter Director for Delta Zeta Sorority. Lisa enjoyed taking pictures, traveling, crafts, reading and doing needle point. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. Those left to cherish her memory,
Mother Louise Rose Bergeria of Quantico VA; her husband of 34 years, Joe Blankenship; three children, William Blankenship, of Athens, John Paul Blankenship & wife Jennifer, of Charleston, Sara Blankenship, of Athens; and Thor Gipper family puppy; siblings, William "Woody" Bergeria & wife, Rose, of Stafford VA, Krista Marone & husband, Frank, of Winchester VA; great uncle, John Tiplady of Staten Island NY; and a host of cousins, nieces & nephews. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, February 16, 2012 from the Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Harrison Street in Princeton with Father Paul Wharton as the celebrant. Burial will follow in Athens Cemetery in Athens. A time of sharing and gathering will be held Wednesday from 5 until 8 PM at the Memorial Funeral Directory on the Athens Road in Princeton with a Christian Wake service at 7:30 P.M. with Deacon Don Hammond as the speaker. In memory of Lisa Blankenship memorial gifts are appreciated in lieu of flowers; Delta Zeta Foundation, 202 East Church Street, Oxford, OH 45056, Concord Cheerleaders (Mt. Lion Club) P. O. Box 1000 CM-77, Athens WV 24712 or the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund, 507 Harrison Street, Princeton WV 24740. The Honor of serving the Blankenship Family has been given to the Memorial Funeral Directory & Cremation Center on the Athens Road in Princeton.
